(Posted March 4, 2008)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College men's basketball team has received a bid to the ECAC Division III South Men's Basketball Championship and will face Misericordia University in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Dallas, Pa.
The sixth-seeded Eagles (17-10) will square off against the third-seeded Cougars (18-9) at 7:00 p.m. at Misericordia's Anderson Sports-Health Center.
Misericordia comes into the ECAC South Tournament after dropping an 82-65 decision to Immaculata University in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Cougars finished third in the PAC with an 11-5 conference record, and began post-season play with a 58-38 win over Neumann College in the PAC Tournament quarterfinals.
This will mark Juniata's second consecutive appearance in the ECAC South Tournament; the Eagles defeated Bethany College (W.Va.) 72-62 in the quarterfinals of the 2007 ECAC South Tournament, before falling to Penn State Behrend 77-69 in the semifinals.
The winner of the Juniata-Misericordia contest will advance to the semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinal game between no. 2 seed Carnegie Mellon (16-9) and no. 7 seed Grove City College (17-10). Either one of those games would be a rematch for the Eagles; Juniata lost at Grove City, 64-63, on November 28, 2007, and dropped a 65-57 decision at home to the Tartans back on January 5, 2008.
