Gettysburg blanks Juniata men's tennis, 9-0

(Posted April 17, 2008)

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Juniata College men's tennis team's final tune-up before a make-or-break conference battle with Moravian College did not go how the Eagles had hoped, as Juniata dropped a 9-0 decision to Gettysburg College on Thursday afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa. Sophomore Jarrad Silver (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and junior Jonathan Skoner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) nearly forced their matches at #1 and #2 singles into super-tiebreakers; Silver lost to Gettysburg's Dale Beshore at #1 singles 7-5, 6-4, while Skoner was upended at #2 singles, 6-2, 7-5, by the Bullets' Derin Wilson. Silver and Arnab Chakrabarti (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) played the Gettysburg pairing of Beshore and Kyle Naylor to an 8-4 loss in the Eagles' closest doubles match of the afternoon. Juniata (6-11) will close out the 2007-08 regular season on Saturday, April 19, when it hosts Moravian College in a Landmark Conference match at the Raffensperger Tennis Courts in Huntingdon. The winner will claim the final spot in the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Championship, which begins on Wednesday, April 23.
