HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- With 14 runs off 19 hits, #1 Juniata College defeated #4 University of Scranton 14-2, Friday afternoon, May 2, at Langdon-Goodale in Huntingdon, Pa. Juniata right-hander Jay Enoch (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), improved his record to 9-2, completing the game with 13 strikeouts and allowing only six hits. "Going out there with Jay on the mound gave us that much more confidence," said Juniata Head Coach Tom Gibboney. Scranton tossed three pitchers with Tim Reiser (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM) tallying the loss, now with a record of 5-1. The Eagles started off the game with a three run home run in the first from Dan Kauffman (Conestoga, Pa./Penn Manor), scoring Adam Spadafora (Lebanon, N.J./Pennington School) and Kevin Small (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North), who reached on a walk and a single, respectively. The game remained 3-0, until the top of the seventh when Scranton began to rally, bringing the score to 3-2. David Giglio (Wallingford, Conn./Xavier) reached and scored off a walk, while Kevin Johnson (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) also reached on a walk and scored off a batter being hit by a pitch. The Eagles answered back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring seven runs off six hits. Shawn McDonald (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) hit a solo home run over the left field fence, making it his first collegiate home run. Kauffman followed with a double, scoring Small, who reached on a fielder's choice and Spadafora, who reached on a single to shortstop. Kauffman later scored from Dane Ott (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) reaching on four balls. Ott, John Martinez (Mt. Union, Pa./Mt. Union), and Greg Hoffman (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) each scored off a single by McDonald, to complete the inning, increasing the score to 10-2. Juniata continued the damage into the eighth with a double from Spadafora and an intentional walk to Kauffman, who each scored off a Hoffman home run over the left field fence. Steve Wilk (Blairsville, Pa./Blairsville) scored the last run of the game off a single up the middle from McDonald. Royal third baseman Justin Champagne provided Scranton with three of their six hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
