Juniata field hockey gets shutout by #19 Elizabethtown, 4-0
(Posted September 10, 2008)
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College scored all the offense it would need in the game's third minute as Juniata College field hockey dropped a 4-0 decision to the 19th-ranked Blue Jays, Wednesday afternoon in Elizabethtown, Pa.
The Blue Jays' Brenna Noon buried a pass from Megan Angstadt just 2:47 into the game, putting E-town in front 1-0.
Noon's goal was all the offense either team managed to generate in the first half, but the Blue Jays quickly expanded their lead in the second period. Elizabethtown added three goals in the second half, starting with Andrea Miles' goal from Katy Boone just 4:42 into the period.
Angstadt tallied a goal of her own with 26:33 remaining in the game, off an assist from Alison Duval. Martina White capped the offense with her first goal of the season with 21:07 left to play.
"We started out strong, but didn't have our attack in the first half and couldn't seem to get it going in the second half either," said Juniata head coach Caroline Gillich. "We need to do a better job of playing to our team's strengths, and staying away from our opponent's strengths."
Three different Juniata goalies shared duties in the Eagle cage, with Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) starting the match and recording one save with one goal allowed in nearly 13 minutes of playing time.
Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) saw 16 minutes in goal and recorded one save, while Moira Nugent played the remaining 41 minutes and turned aside five shots while allowing three goals.
Elizabethtown's Liz Hannegan played all 70 minutes in the Blue Jay cage, and registed just one save.
E-town outshot the Blue Jays 15-1, and logged 13 penalty corner opportunities to Juniata's two.
Juniata closes out its run of seven straight road games to open the 2008 season with this Saturday's contest against Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa.
