McKenzie named chair of NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee

(Posted March 2, 2009)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College head women's soccer coach Scott McKenzie was selected chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee, during the committee's recent meeting on February 10-12 in Indianapolis, Ind.

McKenzie served as the committee's vice chair for the past 12 months, and he has been a member of the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee since 2006. He previously served as a member and later chair of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee from September 2007 to September 2009.

The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee is responsible for all oversight of Division III women's soccer, including selection of teams for the national championship bracket and administration of the tournament. McKenzie's 12-month term as chair will officially begin on September 1, 2009.

McKenzie recently concluded his ninth season as head women's soccer coach at Juniata, and he currently has a record of 64-85-12. He has guided the Eagles to three straight winning seasons - the program's first winning seasons. Juniata finished the 2008 campaign with a 9-6-1 mark and reached the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second year in a row, after McKenzie's 2007 squad earned the first post-season berths in program history by earning slots in both the Landmark and ECAC South Region tournaments.

McKenzie, a 1984 graduate of the State University of New York College at Brockport, was the women's soccer coach at Southern Vermont College from 1992 until arriving on College Hill. During that time, he established a 60-71-10 overall record for a .461 winning percentage. He took charge of a program that had only been in existence since 1988 and within two years had the Mountaineers claiming the institution's first-ever conference title in a women's sport. More impressive was his overall record his final four years (36-31-7), including three 10-win campaigns, and the fact that Southern Vermont advanced to the post-season tournament in each year of conference affiliation under McKenzie.

McKenzie received his national coaching diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 1996, as well as his advanced national coaching diploma in 1998. He accepted his goalkeeping institute diploma from the NSCAA in 2004. McKenzie has been affiliated with the NSCAA along with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

McKenzie is one of two Juniata head coaches currently serving as chair of an NCAA national committee; head cross country and track & field coach Jon Cutright is the current chair of the NCAA Division III Track and Field Committee, with his term due to expire at the end of the current academic year.

Juniata is the only Division III institution with two head coaches currently serving as chairs of their respective sport's NCAA committee.
