Women's basketball earns ECAC South Tournament bid; will face Albright College on Wednesday

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College women's basketball team received a berth in the eight-team ECAC Division III South Region Tournament, and will face Albright College in a semifinal game on Wednesday night in Reading, Pa.
The Eagles (15-11, 9-5 Landmark) were slotted as the eighth-seed, and will take on the top-seeded Lions at 7:00 p.m. at Albright's Bollman Center Gymnasium. Tickets are $5 for general admission, and $3 for students with ID.
"I'm just glad I didn't have to tell our seniors today at practice that we didn't get in," said Juniata head coach Danny Young-Uhrich. "I felt we were a quality team deserving of a nod, but I believe it was all dependent on our strength of schedule. It came down to 10 teams, I believe, and all of them but one had a better overall record that we did, so we were really banking on our non-conference schedule."
Juniata qualified for the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second year in a row, and fell to Moravian College 66-57 in the tournament semifinals.
Albright (17-9) reached the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament, where it dropped a 56-51 decision to Lebanon Valley College. The Lions finished tied for second in the Commonwealth with an 8-4 league record.
"I know Albright beat Messiah College, DeSales University, and Gwynedd-Mercy College, and Messiah and DeSales were both ranked at the time Albright beat them - so I know they're very capable of winning big games," said Young-Uhrich. "They're always a tough team to beat in their gym."
The rest of the ECAC South Tournament bracket features #7 Wesley College (Del.) at #2 Gwynedd-Mercy College, #6 Centenary College (N.J.) at #3 Manhattanville College, and #5 Neumann College at #4 Alvernia University. All games will be played at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 4.
