Women second, men third after first day at Landmark track championships

TOWSON, Md. -- The Juniata College women's track and field team stands in second place with 68 points, while the men are in third with 65.50 points, after the first day of competition at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Goucher College in Towson, Md.

The women are trailing first place Moravian College with 105 points, while the men are behind Moravian College with 87 points and Susquehanna University with 79.50 points.

Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was one of two Juniata performers to post first place performances and claim First team All-Landmark Conference honors, when he won the men's javelin with a throw of 199-5. Kyle Mazur (Ogdensburg, N.J./Morris Catholic) was second with his mark of 193-8, taking Second team All-Landmark Conference accolades.

Patrick Filamor (Wanchai, Hong Kong/Int'l School of Manila) was second in the men's long jump with an effort of 21-5 ½, and earned Second team All-Landmark honors.

Sam Williams (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central) was the only other Juniata male to claim All-Landmark Conference honors, with his second place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:55.59.

On the women's side, Kelsey Buffenmyer (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) won the high jump and set a new conference record, after clearing the bar at 5-1 ¾. Buffenmyer was also fourth in the long jump with her mark of 17-4 ¾.

Kristyn Ginter (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) was second in the women's javelin with a throw of 116-10, while Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) was second in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:48.12.

The Landmark championships continue on Sunday, April 26, in Towson, Md.
