Price's OT goal lifts Eagles over King's College

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Junior Paula Price's breakaway goal 8:19 into the first overtime period helped Juniata down King's College in the opening round of the Stevens Institute of Technology Invitational in Hoboken, N.J. on Saturday. The win evened Juniata's record to 1-1, while King's fell to 1-1.

Sophomore Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) had a goal and an assist in the first period to help Juniata take a 2-0 lead in the first period. Amrod's first goal of the season at 4:58, opened up the scoring for the Eagles. She assisted on a goal by sophomore Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) at the 21:21 mark to extend Juniata's lead. The Lady Monarchs cut Juniata's lead in half with a goal off a penalty corner by Jenera Quinoes with seven seconds remaining in the half. Juniata's starting goalie Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) made two saves, while playing the entire first half.

In the second half, Juniata was outshot 9-4, but goalie Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) made five saves, while only allowing one goal in 43:19 minutes of play. King's lone goal of the second half came at 46:07 to tie the score, with Candice Russ scoring off of a penalty stroke. Russ's goal would tie the score and send the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Juniata had the only shot on goal, with Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) scoring the game-winning goal. It was Price's second goal of the season, which leads the team.

Juniata was outshot by King's College 14-13, but Spratt and Nugent combined to make seven saves for the Eagles. Michelle Ray and Erin McGinley split time in goal for the Monarchs with Ray making one save and McGinley stopping two shots.

Juniata will continue play in the Stevens Institution of Technology Invitational Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with a matchup against Ramapo College of N.J.
