Amrod's overtime game-winner propels Eagles, 2-1

(Posted October 20, 2009)

DOVER, Del. - Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) scored 6:44 into overtime to launch the Juniata College field hockey team past Wesley College (Del.), 2-1, in Dover, Del., on Tuesday night.

The 19th ranked Eagles came into the nonconference matchup already locking up home field advantage throughout the Landmark Conference playoffs but looking to gain a full head of stream by the semifinal on November 4.

Sophomore Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) started the scoring as she received a pass off a penalty corner from junior Paula Price (Camphill, Pa./East Pennsboro) and beat the Wolverine goalie at the 30:35 mark of the first half.

The scored remained 1-0 until Wesley (11-6) tied the score with 10:04 left to go in regulation. Danielle Tearl was able to beat goalkeeper Denalyn Spratt (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) for the unassisted goal.

Neither team was able to seal the deal in regulation, setting up for Amrod's overtime game-winner. Amrod took the team's 15th penalty corner, sending one out to McGlone. Amrod received the ball back and connected with the back of the cage for the 2-1 victory.

Spratt stopped two shots in over 76 minutes of action for Juniata (13-3, 5-0 Landmark) while Sarah Johnson made 18 saves for the Wolverines. Brook Bennett chipped in with a defensive save for Wesley.

The Eagles outshot Wesley, 26-22, but lost the penalty corner battle, 23-15.

The team stays on the road for their next matchup when they take on Landmark Conference foe, Scranton, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 for their final conference game of the season.
