Juniata women's volleyball picks up commitment from Courtney Lydick for 2010 season

(Posted April 16, 2010)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College women's volleyball has received a commitment from Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) to continue her education at Juniata while competing as a member of the two-time NCAA Division III champion women's volleyball team.

Lydick, a 6-0 middle hitter, will join the Eagles in August 2010 as they pursue their 30th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a third national title.

"The most intriguing aspect of Courtney's game is her potential," said Juniata head coach Larry Bock. "She is already a terrific hitter and blocker with great quickness and range. Her length and speed combine to give Courtney some unique and uncharted abilities and we are really looking forward to her four years wearing the Juniata uniform."

A three-year letterwinner at General McLane High School, Lydick earned Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA) All-State honors in 2008 and 2009, and was named both the Region 5 and District IX player of the year in 2009. She was named the Erie Times-News Player of the Year this past fall. At the club level, she played for the EPIC Volleyball Club.

Courtney is the daughter of Bruce and Pam Lydick, and will be pursuing a degree in business and communications at Juniata.

Courtney Lydick will be competing for a Juniata women's volleyball team that stands as one of the storied programs in the history of the sport.

The Eagles are led by Larry Bock, whose career record of 1,218-186 gives him the most wins of any collegiate women's volleyball coach in any division. With Bock at the helm, the Eagles captured the 2004 and 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships. Juniata has reached the national semifinals on 24 occasions, eight times advancing to the championship match. The Eagles have had 34 players earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honors, the most of any NCAA women's volleyball program.
