Juniata Choral Union to Perform International Program of Music

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College Choral Union will present a concert featuring music spanning the globe in the program "Around the World in 50 Minutes" at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 27 in Rosenberger Auditorium in Oller Hall on the Juniata College campus.
The concert is free and open to the public. The Choral Union is conducted by Russell Shelley, Elma Stine Heckler Professor of Music at Juniata.
The program will begin its journey at home in North America with Michael Larkin's "Let Beauty Awake." The concert continues with an African-American spiritual "Guide My Feet," arranged by Avis D. Graves. "And So It Goes," arranged by Audrey Snyder, and "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burnin'," by Patsy Ford Simms, "Domine Dilexi," by Philip Lawson, are also played during the North American portion.
Traveling overseas, the program brings you to Europe playing pieces such as "Domine Ad Adjuvandum" and "Dixit Dominius" by an Italian composer, Giacomo Puccini. The ensemble stays in Europe performing "In Exitu Israel," by Antonio Vivaldi, "Gloria!," by John Armstrong, "My Heart's in the Highlands," by Donald Moore, and an Irish folk song, "Down by the Sally Gardens," arranged by David Lantz III.
Middle Eastern influences are represented by "Zum Gali, Gali," a Hebrew hymn arranged by Richard Pisano.
The Choral Union quickly sends you to Asia performing several Chinese pieces, such as "Love China," and "Velvet Flower." Following with "Ahrirang," a Korean piece and "Momoshiki Ya," a Japanese musical composition.
The ensemble represents Latin America during their performances of "La Cana Verde," arranged by Ramon Noble.
The Choral Union is the largest choral ensemble at Juniata with a student membership of more than 90 and more than 50 members from communities in the Huntingdon area. The Juniata Choral Union traditionally performs larger choral works.
