Women's soccer posts shutout win over Thiel College

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Juniata College women's soccer got goals from its veterans on Sunday afternoon, including two in the span of 64 seconds, and cruised to a 3-0 shutout win over Thiel College.
After a scoreless first half, Juniata head coach Scott McKenzie opted for a formation change heading into the second stanza. McKenzie junked the four-back system the Eagles used over the first 45 minutes, going to just three backs and sending the extra player forward.
That shift seemed to spark the Juniata offense, as junior Aimee Radic (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) scored what would ultimately be the game winner in the 54th minute. Senior Caitlin Bigelow (La Mesa, Calif./Acad. of Our Lady of Peace) notched the assist.
Sophomore Katie Keating (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) recorded her first collegiate goal in the 56th minute, with an unassisted score to increase Juniata's margin to 2-0. Bigelow capped the scoring with an unassisted goal of her own in the 73rd minute.
Senior Kristen Penska (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) played the first 73 minutes in the Juniata goal, but was not challenged. Sophomore Gabrielle Ricciardi (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) played the final 17 minutes and made one save.
Thiel keeper Jill Harry finished with three saves to go with the three goals allowed.
Juniata outshot Thiel 11-2, and had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Eagles will travel to Latrobe, Pa., on Tuesday, Sept. 7, to face Saint Vincent College in a 4:00 p.m. match.
