Juniata College Names Merck Executive to Board of Trustees

Ron Seiler, project manager with Merck& Co. Inc., has been named to the Juniata Board of Trustees as an alumni trustee.

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Ronald Seiler, a project manager with Merck & Co. Inc. and a resident of North Wales, Pa., has been named to the Juniata College board of trustees as an alumni trustee beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year for a three-year term. Seiler will begin Sept. 1, 2010 and serve through August 2013.

Seiler earned bachelor's degree in chemistry and mathematics in 1977 from Juniata. He went on to earn a master's degree in physical sciences in 1982 from West Chester State College. Seiler has been an extraordinarily active volunteer for Juniata, serving on the college's Alumni Council from 1993 to 1998 and was president of the Juniata Alumni Association from 1996 to 1997. He also worked as the volunteer chair of the Juniata Fund. He also has been a Juniata Admissions Ambassador and a member of the Juniata Career Team.

Seiler began his professional career as an educator, working as a chemistry teacher at North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa. from 1977 to 1984.

He left teaching to become an entrepreneur, opening a computer business, Software Office Services, in Souderton, Pa. in 1984. In 1987, he started another business, Computer and Office Training, in Lansdale, Pa., which he owned and operated through 1999.

At the same time starting in 1984, he continued his career in education, teaching computer science at Montgomery College Community College, in Blue Bell, Pa., through 1989 and at Temple University, in Ambler, Pa., through 1996. From 1990 through 1999, Seiler worked as a computer-programming consultant for Browning-Ferris Industries.

In 1999, he worked as a technical writer for Kelly Technical Services in Blue Bell, Pa., working on an assignment at Merck & Co. through 2001.

In 2001, Seiler was hired full-time by Merck as manager of the end-user documentation group. He was promoted to learning technology and training manager in 2006 at the company's North Wales site in 2006. In 2008, Seiler joined the project management department. Currently, he is part of the project and pipeline management operations group responsible for Microsoft Project Server.

He remains active in his community as well. He has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lansdale since 1977, serving as president of the organization from 2003 to 2004. He also was named a George Hixon Fellow by Kiwanis in 1999 and served on the board of directors from 1979 to 1984 and from 1993 to 1996.

He received the North Penn Senior Center Community Service Volunteer Award in 1997 and was chairman of the North Penn Area Scholarship Fund Association. He was named Teacher of the Year in 1984.
