Bowman, Goodfellow, Gring, and Hankinson named to Landmark Fall All-Academic Team

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Four Juniata College student-athletes were among those named to the Landmark Conference 2010 Fall All-Academic Team, which was announced Wednesday.

Juniata's Fall 2010 All-Academic team selections are Caitlyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown), Kenny Goodfellow (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg), Jeffrey Gring (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and Nikki Hankinson (New Baltimore, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley).

Caitlin Bowman, a native of Seven Valleys, Pa., helped Juniata to a fourth-straight Landmark Field Hockey Championship as she scored three goals and added three assists. She has piled up nine goals and six assists in three seasons for 24 points. She received a scholarship from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, plays viola in the Juniata Orchestra and is majoring in biology.

Kenny Goodfellow of Duncansville, Pa. has enjoyed a strong career for the Juniata cross country team. He posted a top-30 finish for the Eagles at the Landmark Championship, helping the team to a second-place finish. In the classroom he has a perfect GPA and is a recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and several awards given to outstanding Juniata science students. He is majoring in physics and mathematics.

Jeff Gring of Mechanicsburg, Pa. finished the season with three goals and three assists for the Juniata men's soccer team. He had two game-winning goals this year and has five goals and three assists over his three seasons. His research placed second at the Landmark Summer Research Symposium, he volunteers at the Huntingdon Humane Society and is majoring in biology with a minor in environmental studies.

Nikki Hankinson, from New Baltimore, Pa., moved to defender after two years at forward for the Juniata women's soccer team, scoring one goal this year, giving her four goals and an assist in three years. She was also picked as the Landmark Defensive Player of the Week once. An elementary and special education major, she studied abroad in France, is active in Campus Ministry and volunteers for the Special Olympics.

Two male and two female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions are selected for the team, which honors athletes who have excelled academically and athletically. Nominees may come from any of the Landmark fall sports, and must have sophomore standing or higher with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better. The Landmark Conference will select an All-Academic team for each of the three athletics seasons during the year.
