Juniata Soccer Athlete Wolfe Honored as 'Player of the Week'
(Posted October 21, 2002)
Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College senior Nick Wolfe (McConnellsburg/McConnellsburg) was recognized by the Commonwealth Conference as the men's soccer "player of the week" on Oct. 15.
Wolfe scored one goal on the week, the lone goal in a Juniata 2-1 loss to Penn State-Altoona. The honor more likely comes as recognition of Wolfe's play over the second half of the season. The senior forward has scored in five of the Eagles last seven games, and was the only Juniata player to score in four of those contests. He has also notched the game-winning goal in four games this season, including scoring the game-winner in three consecutive Eagle victories.
Wolfe's recent surge has him moving up the Juniata career goal-scoring charts.
Wolfe entered the season with 18 career goals. The seven he has put away this season has moved him into fourth place in school history in career goals.
Through 12 games this season Wolfe has registered 16 points, leaving him one point away from moving into the top-five in school history in points. The Eagles have four games remaining in the regular season.
With Wolfe leading the offense, the Juniata soccer team is making a push for the postseason. Through 12 games the Eagles have a record of 6-5-1, and are 2-2 in the Commonwealth Conference. With three conference games remaining, the Eagles have a chance of finishing in the fourth or better in the conference, and earning a berth in the conference playoffs.
