(Posted April 11, 2011)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College softball was held to eight hits over two games and dropped a pair of shutout losses to Mount Aloysius College, 8-0 and 9-0, Monday afternoon at Weaver Park Field in Huntingdon.

Mount Aloysius scored one run in the top of the first in game one, and tacked on three more in the second - two of those coming off Jena Isenberg's two-run single through the left side.

Another Mountie run crossed in the fourth, and Isenberg plated two more on a double up the middle. Mount Aloysius scored its final run in the sixth with a Shelby Kline RBI double.

Juniata (3-23) was held to singles by Caley McCool (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley), Kelsea Decker (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area), and Steph Frith (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove). Mount Aloysius starter Shelby Kline also struck out five Eagles and walked three in the complete game shutout.

Eagle starter Morgan Miller (Olney, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) was chased after allowing four runs, all earned, on four hits and four walks over one-and-two-thirds innings; Mason Kersey (Charles Town, W.Va./St. John's Prep) came on in the second and scattered six hits over four-and-a-third innings with four walks.

In game two, Mount Aloysius' 1-0 lead held through the top of the fourth, when the Mounties plated five runs including three on Renee Schmidt's home run to left center field.

Three more Mountie runs crossed in the sixth, thanks to Schmidt's RBI double to left center and a Mariah McDowell two-run single up the middle.

The Eagles got runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but were unable to find the hits to bring in the runs. Juniata had runners at third in the first and second innings, and had a runner reach second with one out in the third, but did not get a runner past first base after the third.

McCool, Meghan Decker (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area), Amanda Gerlach (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza), Allison Gerlach (Mesa, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) and Kelsey Shutt (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each had singles for the Eagles in game two.

Kelsey Decker went the distance for Juniata, allowing nine runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts. Mount Aloysius starter Carrie Shevrock fanned three Eagles and did not issue a single walk in the complete game shutout performance.

Juniata has the rest of the week off before hosting defending Landmark champion Moravian College on Saturday, April 16, at 1:00 p.m. on Weaver Park Field.
