Reading Specialist from U.K. to Lecture at Juniata College

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Pauline Travers, English coordinator and lead teacher for 4- and 5-year-olds at Charlton Kings Elementary School in Cheltenham, England, will lecture on teaching young children to read at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29 in the Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Travers will outline and demonstrate the teaching strategies she uses at Charlton Kings Elementary School, which has been designated as a model school in Great Britain.

The lecture is sponsored by the Raystown Country Reading Council and Juniata Instructors of the Future, the college's student education club.

Travers is a reading and literacy specialist in the British educational system and recently received an award recognizing her excellence as a reading teacher. She will also discuss the methods used to teach reading in Britain.
