Juniata retains Landmark SAAC Sportsmanship Cup

(Posted August 3, 2011)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College, the winner of the inaugural Landmark Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Sportsmanship Cup a year ago, will hang onto the cup for another year as the Eagles again finished atop the standing in voting by the league's head coaches and team captains.

Juniata finished with 7.00 points, narrowly edging Moravian College (6.786 points) and Goucher College (6.625 points).

The Eagles captured the Landmark sportsmanship award in four sports: men's cross country, men's track and field, women's track and field, and women's basketball (tied with Moravian College). Juniata also finished among the top vote recipients in two other sports.

The Landmark SAAC Sportsmanship Cup was adopted prior to the 2009-10 academic year and is designed to promote good sportsmanship throughout the conference and to recognize the Landmark institution that demonstrates the best overall sportsmanship over the course of the year. The Cup is awarded based on a formula that compiles the votes of each Landmark coach in consultation with their team captains ranking the top-3 sportsmanship programs in their respective sports. The formula also takes into account the number of sports an institution sponsors.
