Choral Union Concert Mixes Vivaldi, Holiday Selections

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College Choral Union will incorporate three guest musical ensembles into its fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.

The concert is free and open to the public. The Choral Union is directed by Russell Shelley, Alma Stine Heckler Professor of Music.

The Vivaldi piece features vocal solos by Janice Mianulli, a voice instructor at Juniata, and Emily Wertz, a vocal instructor at Lycoming College.

The concert will open with "Hope for Resolution (A Song for Mandela and DeKlerk)." The Standing Stone Elementary School Choir, directed by Andrea Croyle, will perform alongside the Juniata choir.

Next, the group will join with the Juniata College Orchestra, on the majestic "Gloria," by Antonio Vivaldi. The Juniata orchestra is directed by Rebekah O'Brien, lecturer in music at Juniata. In addition, the Vivaldi piece features vocal solos by Janice Mianulli, a voice instructor at Juniata, and Emily Wertz, a vocal instructor at Lycoming College.

The Stone Church of the Brethren Bell Choir will join with the ensemble to perform some holiday music, including "Noel Festival," "He is Born," and "Angels We Have Heard on High." The bell choir is directed by Sharon Yohn, assistant professor of chemistry at Juniata.

In addition, the bell choir will perform the prelude to "Divine Mysterium" and "Go Tell It On the Mountain."

The concert will close with the composition "El Cielo Canta Alegria," by Pablo Sosa. The piece's Spanish title means "Heaven is Singing for Joy."
