Juniata Music Students to Perform Honors Recitals

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Eight Juniata College music students will participate in the college's Honors Recital at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $3 for adults, and all Juniata students and students under the age if 18 are admitted free.
The recitals will open with soprano Jessica Matlack, a sophomore from Newtown Square, Pa., who will perform "You'll Never Walk Alone," from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Carousel." John Bukowski, professor of mathematics, will be accompanist.
Next Benson Canfield, a senior from Littleton, N.H., will sing "The Magic Flute, K. 620: Isis und Osiris," by Wolfgang Mozart, and "Dichterliebe, Op. 48: The Poet's Love," by Robert Schumann. Bukowski is accompanist.
Other soloists include Andrew Orsie, a senior pianist from Summit Point, W.Va., and Sara Holtzinger, a senior vocalist from York, Pa. Their repertoire was not available at press time.
The next recital section focuses on instrumentalists, starting with pianist Patrick Rea, a freshman from Altoona, Pa. Rea will play "Nocturne in B-Flat Minor" by Frederic Chopin, one of 21 nocturnes that Chopin wrote in his lifetime.
Emma Ruggery, a junior from Duncansville, Pa., will perform the piano composition "Clair de Lune," by Claude Debussy. Debussy's work focuses on romantic themes.
Victoria Rehr, a sophomore from Wernersville, will play the flute on the composition "Sonata in F Major, for Flute and Piano" by George Telemann. Bukowski will accompany the flutist on piano.
Adam Weaver, a freshman pianist from Hollidaysburg, Pa., will perform "Toccata" by Aram Khachaturian. Khachaturian is best known for his works "Sword Dance."
Andrew Orsie, a senior form Summit Point, W.Va., will return to the recital as a vocalist, performing "Composizioni da Camera," by Vincenzo Bellini, and "On The Street Where You Live," by Frederick Loewe, from the musical "My Fair Lady."
