(Posted January 27, 2003)
Huntingdon, PA - The Juniata College women's soccer team earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) team academic award for their work on the soccer field and in the classroom.
The award is given to any team that completes their varsity season, while maintaining a 3.0 or higher team grade point average for the entire academic year. The award, received this season, is for the 2001-02 academic year, in which the Eagles had a team GPA of 3.02.
The 2001 Juniata women's team which earned this award, finished their campaign with a program-record for wins in a season. The Eagles also had a player named to the Commonwealth Conference All-star team for the first time in the program's history.
The Eagles were one of 70 teams that compete in NCAA Division III. Division III programs do not offer athletic scholarships to their athletes. Juniata was one of three teams from their own Commonwealth Conference to earn the recognition.
The award was announced at the annual NSCAA convention.
