Men's Volleyball Player Eiser Named Division III 'Player of the Week'
(Posted January 26, 2004)
Huntingdon, PA ? Juniata College senior middle hitter Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) was selected as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week as well as the EIVA Division III player of the week for his efforts in Juniata?s season-opening match.
Facing off against Division I Ohio State, Eiser notched 17 kills in helping Juniata come within four points of knocking off the 12th ranked team in the USA TODAY/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll. Eiser recorded the 17 kills with only one error in just 24 attacks, giving him an attack percentage of .667. Those attack numbers came against a collection of Ohio State middle blockers who were an average height of 6-8. He added three blocks, giving him 20 points on the night, along with two digs and an assist in the match.
Eiser is coming off a season in which he was selected as a second-team All-EIVA Division III performer. He finished his junior season second on the team in kills, and third in hitting percentage among the regular attackers. He was second on the unit in blocks and digs, topping 100 in both categories, while adding 11 serve aces on the year. Eiser also earned EIVA Division III player of the week status on one occasion during his junior season.
With Eiser as a main contributor, the Juniata men?s volleyball team is looking to surpass their success from a season ago in 2004. Last season the Eagles claimed the EIVA Division III Championship for the first time since 1999 and advanced to the Championship match of the Molten Division III Tournament. Juniata had one player earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week honors during 2003, along with a trio of players named EIVA Division III players of the week during the season.
Juniata will play their first home match of the season Wednesday night when they host Eastern Mennonite.
