SECOND SCHOOL RECORD FALLS FOR JUNIATA AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Katey Glunt broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the second day of competition at the MAC Championships.

Grantham, Pa.รข?? After the second day of competition at the MAC Track and Field Championship, the Juniata women's team is in fifth place with 31 points, while the men's team is in eighth place with eight points.

The Eagle women saw the second school record fall in the meet as Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) topped her own school record and placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Glunt earned five points by finishing the race in a time of 11:49.42 which bested the previous record of 12:05.24.

Juniata got several solid performances on the women's side in the throws. Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) led the way with a third-place finish in the discus. Andrea Denkovich (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) added three points for the Eagles as she finished sixth in the event. The Eagles also had Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View), Delaney and Betsey Kusniez (Boyertown/Gilbertsville) finish just out of the points in ninth, 10th and 11th-place respectively in the shot put. All three competitors recorded season-best efforts in the event. Maria Welch (Jersey Shore/Avis) added a point with an eighth-place finish in the long jump.

Rounding out the scoring for the women was Troutman and Misty Heuston (Central/Martinsburg) completed the second day of competition in the heptathlon. Troutman's best effort came when she tossed the javelin 138'. Troutman concluded the event in third place with 2,928 points. Heuston finished the heptathlon competition in fifth position with 2,482 points.

The Eagle men put their points on the board in the jumps, mainly the long jump. Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) had the top finish as he jumped 21' 11" which left him in fifth place. Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) was right behind him in sixth place. Anderson jumped 21' 07" in the event and helped Juniata earn seven points.

Rounding out the Juniata men's scoring was Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) who placed eighth in the pole vault. Miller cleared 13' for his eighth-place finish.

Juniata also had a number of competitors run well in the qualifying of the track events.
