Black Friday: Unending Spending
With Thanksgiving Day past, our mouths are still watering with the thoughts of turkey and stuffing. Yet to some, the excitement did not begin until Black Friday, the most widely anticipated shopping day of the year. What makes shoppers hit the malls the day after Thanksgiving?
Jenna Miles '11, Coalport, Pa.: "I usually go shopping on Black Friday. Everyone goes for the big sales but I really just go because I think it's kind of exciting. We get up really early and get ready to go. We usually leave the house by 4 a.m.. Most of the time I don't even buy anything because the lines are ridiculous or I simply can't get through the store."
John Lash '08, Vintondale, Pa.: "No, I don't go. My mom goes every year. I don't see the appeal of waking up at 5 a.m. to go shopping when you can shop at a normal hour."
John O'Donnell '10, Coalport, Pa.: "Black Friday is exhilarating experience. It is a competition designed to make one feel as though they are in need of items that generally are not necessities. Sadly, the strategy works, therefore I am a proud owner of many useless purchases made on Black Friday. It is also good source of exercise following the enormous amount of food ingested the previous day."
Lauren Seganos '11, Davidsville, Pa.: "I don't go because I don't like getting up very early, and because I don't want to deal with all the hectic parents running around."
Amin Khoshnevisan '09, Germantown, Md., - "Yeah, I go Black Friday shopping, and I look forward to it as soon as Halloween is over. It's like the Super Bowl of shopping. The camping out the night before is such a good time hanging out with friends. Also, the rush of sprinting through the stores to get what you want is a lot of fun, too. And you just cannot beat the deals on Black Friday, period.
