The Colbert Report: The New State of the Union?
With Stephen Colbert's recent attempt at running for president in the state of South Carolina captivating the hearts and minds of many across the nation, many people have varied opinions on whether or not a political comedian could serve our country well, or drive it into the ground. To get a bearing at what people are saying, some of our very own cast their ballot early and weigh in on the issue.
Victoria Cavaliere '11 Rochester, N.Y.: "Stephen Colbert is (great) because he is sarcastic, witty, and totally sexy. Colbert for president!"
Leah Cullen '11 Pittsburgh, Pa.: "I think that Stephen Colbert is really funny but would probably not make a good president."
Sarah Carson '11 Pittsburgh, Pa.: "He is very knowledgeable in politics. People feel comfortable expressing themselves to him because of his humorous nature. I would vote for him."
Brandon Spayd '08, Huntingdon, Pa.: "I didn't think that the rumor of Stephen Colbert running for president was legit. I thought it was just a marketing ploy to get more people to watch his show."
Kate Goulet '11, Spencer, Mass.: "I think Stephen Colbert is funny, but I really don't think he would make a good president because I wouldn't be able to take him seriously."
While some may argue that some answers may or may not be good reasons for qualifying Stephen Colbert to be a good presidential candidate, there is no doubt that this issue is causing quite a stir among people across campus.
