The Guessing Game: How to Predict Mountain Day

There are many different ways Juniata students use to try to determine the exact date of Mountain Day. After asking different students what they thought Juniata's criteria was for Mountain Day, I realized that everyone has their own theory and method.

Rachel Mongerson '08 from Ridgeway, Pa. - "Mountain Day is scheduled on days when no sporting events are scheduled. A sure way to find out if Mountain Day is the next day is to call the few places that the picnic for Mountain Day is held at and see if they are booked."

Tory Cavaliere '11 from Rochester, N.Y. - "Mountain Day cannot be within 48 hours of another big event. This is because it's much harder to organize more than one event with a limited amount of people to prepare and organize them. It is much more efficient to organize large events in spaced periods of time."

Chelsea Borcherding '11 from Strasburg, Pa. - "Mountain Day can never be on a Monday or a Friday because if it were, students would just leave and go home for a long weekend. No one would show up for Mountain Day."

Dan Hooper '09 from Mill Creek, Pa. - "Mountain Day must be scheduled on a day when the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny; no one would want to go out to a picnic and be outdoors when the weather is rainy and gloomy."

These students' hypotheses should all be considered as they all make valuable points. The validity is proven by the loud banging at 5 in the morning on that fateful day!
