School Security: Are We Safe?

Since the shootings at Virginia Tech and other recent incidents, many college students have been questioning if their school is safe enough to withstand such events. Can Juniata College be the next target? What can the school do to make its students feel safer? This is what Juniata students thought.

Mia Baer '11, Springfield, Mass: "I think to make the campus an overall safer place, it should be well-lit everywhere at night, so that there are no dark places where people could lurk or attack anyone."

Blake Colaianne '11, Latrobe, Pa.: "I think it would be help if the Juniata College Police Department would actually patrol the campus on foot. I always seem them driving around the campus, but never actually walking around. It may make students feel safer actually seeing them around."

Chelsea Borcherding '11, Strasburg, Pa.: "I think the most important thing that we can do is to educate students on "warning signs" in others. If we all look out for one another then we can keep each other a lot safer."

David Rekoski '10, Towson, Md.:- "I feel completely safe at school. Everybody here seems trustworthy and no one steals things. I think every security precaution Juniata can take has pretty much been taken."
