Faculty may borrow materials for an entire semester, subject to recall when needed by others. Students may check out books for three 93) weeks and renew as long as the books have not been put on hold by another patron.
The Library will place materials on reserve for use by members of a class but faculty members must provide their own photocopies of articles or sections of books for the reserve files. Lists of these materials should be in the hands of the Circulation Supervisor several days before reading assignments are announced in class.
Books, photocopies of periodicals, and other materials which are not available in the Juniata College Library may be obtained through the interlibrary loan service. Juniata College belongs to a group of cooperating libraries known as the Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP), whose main purpose is the sharing of library resources belonging to each of the member libraries.
The Library follows copyright guidelines established by the Council for the American Library Association. The Library will place one photocopy of a journal article or section of a book on reserve for every ten students in a class, with a maximum of five photocopies. Additional photocopies will only be accepted for reserve if permission has been received from the copyright holder. Questions concerning copyright should be brought to the attention of the Library Director.
The Library Director welcomes suggestions for supplementary reading and general reference sources. The Library budgets money to each academic department for the purchase of library materials; order slips are provided by the Library for these purchases. Each department should delegate one member to control and approve all orders.
The Student Academic Development Committee may establish a learning resources advisory committee to aid the Library Director in developing policy and reviewing the budget.
3.4.2 Academic Computer Center
The Academic Computer Center provides computing facilities for support of the academic program and is available for use by all students and faculty. Located on the second floor of the center section of the Brumbaugh Science Center, the main center houses the Digital Equipment VAX super-mini computer and has a large user area with 20 IBM PC compatible personal computers and 16 terminals to the VAX. A number of personal computers with VAX connections are also located in Good 421, Humanities 103, and Brumbaugh Science Center P107. A MacIntosh-based Teaching Laboratory is housed in Good 301. Software for the VAX includes Minitab and SPSS-X statistical packages, data management software, and a variety of languages. The Academic Computer Center equipment inventory also includes MacIntosh PCs, SUN workstations, and an Elite portable computer. A fiber optics network connects most classrooms, labs, and faculty offices for printing, file, electronic mail, and Internet access.
All students are given an account on the VAX computer. The main center is open at the following times:
| Monday - Thursday | 7:00 a.m - 1:30 a.m. |

Student Assistants are on duty for extended periods in the four main cluster sites to assist users. The hours for the Assistants and for Good Hall and Humanities Centers are posted in the main center.
Assistance is available on a limited basis to help faculty develop new computing applications. Facilities in Good Hall, the Humanities Building, and the main center may be reserved by faculty for occasional class use. Requests for reserving facilities must be submitted to the Director of the Academic Computer Center at least 72 hours in advance. Reservations are made at the discretion of the Director.
