International Travel Checklist
Required Workshop
The Dean of International Programs provides an Off-campus Safety & Liability
Workshop for College employees leading student groups off-campus. Please contact
the Dean (cushmaj@juniata.edu) for the workshop schedule or additional information.

Who goes?
- GPA requirement?
- Check with Dean of Students office regarding behavior problems.
- All outstanding bills should be paid.
Legal Issues and Safety
- All students sign a liability release.
- Review planned activities with college insurance officer.
- Request information about health and psychological concerns. Counsel students
about risks and identify resources at site.
- Know procedures on site for dealing with medical emergencies (or have local
contact who is responsible for this).
- Have students provide proof of health insurance coverage valid for each
of the countries to be visited.
- Provide or require purchase of ISIC card (evacuation insurance as well
as travel discounts) ($22)
- Make sure students have contact information for emergencies. (in country
and in US)
- Students also sign a “conditions of participation” agreement
that outlines your academic and behavioral expectations and describes actions
to be taken if student does not comply.
Orientation
- If the course does not provide information about the culture to be visited,
provide additional material on dress, manners, food, living conditions, climate,
health risks.
- Provide appropriate training or screening for any physical activity (climbing,
swimming, etc)
- Schedule a briefing by CIE staff about travel safety.
- Review (in individual discussion) any health, psychological or behavioral
concerns.
Information
- Provide CIE with a list of students, home contact information, and copies
of release and conditions forms.
- Provide contact information and itinerary for entire trip (including student
plans for travel following program)
- Leave copies of release forms, health information, conditions of participation
forms and student passports with CIE.
- Give parents or family appropriate contact information for emergencies.
