How do I make a reservation?

Juniata students and employees can use the Events Scheduler on the Arch (the Raystown Campus is near the bottom of the locations list). Non-Juniata renters should contact Conference and Events.

Are the facilities handicapped accessible?

Shuster Hall and Davis Lodge are handicapped accessible, other facilities are not. Please contact us about special needs.

Can I get internet access?

There is full internet coverage at Lakeside Center. Access for Juniata users is the same as on campus, and both wired and wireless access is available. Non-Juniata users can access our JCGuest wireless system. There is no internet access at Grove Farm.

I’d like to have food at my event. What is available?

There are a variety of food options. You are welcome to bring your own food, or carry-in catered food. If you would like food service, we encourage you to contact Mark Grazier’s Food Service. Mark provides food service for the residential semesters, and can cook on-site meals for your event. The campus catering service, Sodexho, is an alternate option. Only Mark and Sodexho can use the commercial kitchen in Shuster Hall. When planning for food, please consider keeping the meal sustainable. We recommend using real dishes, or compostable plates and recyclable cups. We can compost any paper plates, and recycle #1 and 2 plastics, as well as glass and metal. See descriptions of each facility to learn about the kitchens.

Is bedding provided?

No, please bring your own sheets (or sleeping bag) and pillows. There is extra bedding in Grove Farm if you forget. Beds in the Lakeside Lodges are dorm sized (extra long), beds in Grove Farm are standard. All beds are single beds.

Is there a grill available?
A gas grill is available at Shuster Hall and Grove Farm. Please indicate in your reservation if you are planning on using a grill.

Do I need to clean before I leave?

Yes! This allows us to keep our low prices. If you don’t want to clean, we will clean for you for a small fee. Contact Conference and Events for more information. If the facilities require extensive cleaning after a group we reserve the right to charge a clean-up fee.

Can I bring pets?
Sorry, pets are not allowed in any of the RFS facilities.

Are these smoke free facilities?

Yes! There is not smoking inside any of the facilities. If you choose to smoke outside, please clean up all cigarette butts.

Can I bring my power boat or canoe?

Generally no for power boats. The harbor by Grove Farm is limited access (protected research area), and any boat besides RFS research boats will be ticketed (even for Grove Farm renters). You can pull a boat up to shore near Lakeside Center, but there are no dock facilities. You may bring your non-powered watercraft. Recreational boating is not allowed in the Grove Farm harbor, though you may travel through it to get access to the lake.

Are boat rentals available?

Canoe rentals are available, please contact Conference and Events for more information. Power boats are not available for recreational rental, but may be available for research and education groups. Recreational rentals are available at local marinas.

Can I swim or fish?

Yes, renters may swim in Raystown Lake at their own risk - we provide no lifeguard or protected swimming area. At Lakeside Center there is a path going down to the lake where you are welcome to swim and fish. However, this is NOT a no-wake zone, and there is frequent boat traffic. We recommend you stay close to shore and do not swim in low light environments.  At Grove Farm you may swim and fish off the dock, but please do not fish off the shoreline in the harbor (due to fish habitat experiments).

Can I have a campfire?
Yes, but only in a designated fire ring. There is a fire ring outside of Grove Farm (see the virtual tour), and at the recreation area by the lake at Lakeside Center.

What if it snows?

During the residential semesters the paved road to the field station is plowed after a snow event is over - it is not kept clear during a storm. Please plan ahead so you are not traveling during a storm. During winter break, we reserve the right to cancel a rental if plowing costs are prohibitive. Users will not be charged for cancellations due to weather.

Are tours and programs available?
Tours and programs are available, depending on staff availability. Please contact us at rfs@juniata.edu with requests.

Can I hunt at the station, or bring my firearm?
No. There is no hunting on RFS leased property due to the safety risks. You may not being a firearm onto RFS property. There is extensive hunting on the Raystown project property; contact the Army Corps of Engineers for more information.
