Life at the Raystown Field Station
Immersion Learning

The Raystown Field Station immersion learning experience is unlike anything you will experience in the standard classroom.

You will take a series of related courses that are organized in a block schedule.  Instead of one hour of class three days a week, there may be four or eight hours of class one day a week.  This allows for more field time, more trips, and more hands on experiential learning.

Part of the immersion learning experience is living sustainably. You will separate waste into compost, recyclables and garbage and learn how to change your daily actions to live more sustainably.

You will also help take care of where you live.  Weekly cleaning of Shuster Hall, and participation in a project that improves the station are the major components of this.  In 2006, the semester participants built a recreation and campfire area by the lake – and enjoyed the benefits of their labor!
