Maple Sugaring at RFS

The trees are tapped, and we are ready for the 2008 sugaring season. We're eagerly waiting for the warm days / cold nights weather that makes the sugar water run and fills our buckets. Below is a current schedule of planned events - watch for updated information as the weather changes, or contact us at rfs@juniata.edu or 814-641-3572. All sugaring events occur at our Grove Farm facilities (directions).

Sat 3/1 - Preparing for firing. Alumnus and experienced syrup maker Dave Blair will be leading volunteers in preparing the equipment for making syrup. We can use volunteers - contact us for more details.
3/7-3/9 - Alumni and Friends Sugaring Weekend. Come for for the weekend or stop out Saturday! We'll be making syrup (if the weather cooperates!), eating waffles and ice cream with fresh syrup and having a good time! Please RSVP for meals (5$ breakfast or lunch, $8 dinner) or housing - otherwise just drop by!
3/15 - MapleFest - We'll be making syrup again, and eating it on all kinds of treats like fresh waffles. Join us for a fun day of sugaring!
Fri 3/21 - Making syrup. Anyone interested can come out to the Field Station to make syrup and collect sugar water. Firing will start at 7:45 AM and will go until around 5:00 PM. For lunch please RSVP to the Sapsuckers President Adam Bell at bellar05@juniata.edu otherwise just drop by.
Sat 3/29 - Maple syrup making from 10am to 4pm at Grove Farm. Everyone is welcome! Stop in any time. This may be the last chance to make maple syrup this year.
