A Sustainable Juniata College - Spring Goals
For the Spring of 2006, the Sustainability Core team, with support from the Cabinet, has established the following objectives:
Reduce the use of Electricity in February, March and April by 10%
Savings will be based on our projected consumption taking into account the additional load associated with Halbritter and mean average temperature.
Financial savings associated with achieving this goal will be distributed:
- 50% to Student Government
- 25% to purchase additional wind power
- 25% to ongoing college operations
Environmental impact of achieving this goal would be:
- Reduction of 190 metric tons of CO2
Reduce Paper use in network printers and copiers for February, March and April by 10%
For these months in 2005 we used approximately 1.32 million prints/copies
- 10% reduction would equate to 132,000 fewer prints/copies.
- A tree equates to approximately 12,500 sheets of paper.
- For every 12,500 sheets we reduce, we will plant a tree on campus.
Increase the percent of "Sustainable Cups of Coffee" from 4% to 10%
- Sustainable Cups = bringing your own cup or using one provided at the coffee locations on campus
- 8024 regular cups of coffee purchased in the Fall
- 345 as "Sustainable" Cups
- Reduces waste to the landfill AND saves you money - Sustainable cups of coffee are only $1.00
Actively Participate in Recylemania
- Recyclemania is a national competition involving 91 other colleges and universities
- Our goal is to increase the amount of recycling we do on campus AND
- Reduce our waste to the landfill
