Detailed POE Information

The Psychology Department has a designated POE in Psychology. This POE offers considerable flexibility, requiring students to take three "core" courses:

  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Research Methods & Statistics I
  • Research Methods & Statistics II

Also, the students must take four of the following six "breadth" courses:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Social Psychology
  • Biopsychology
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Cognitive Neuroscience

During their senior year, students are required to take Capstone in Psychology. Beyond this, in consulation with their psychology department advisor, students are free to select elective courses that best suit their needs and desires.

Design your own POE

Students also have the option to design their own POE by combining courses with other departments. A few examples of POEs that have been designed by students in the past are:

  • Animal Behavior
  • Biopsychology
  • Communication & Behavior
  • Peace Psychology
  • Individual & Organizational Behavior
  • Human Behavior & Development

Secondary Emphasis Requirements

  • A minimum of 18 credit hours in psychology with at least 6 credit hours at the 300- or 400-level
  • With approval, students may substitute one course from a related discipline
