NEXT STEPS FOR ADMITTED STUDENTS

In the coming weeks, there are several steps to complete in order to ensure you have comprehensive information at your fingertips to make your final college choice. From your personal enrollment counselor to the counselors in the Office of Student Financial Planning, we are here to assist you with the next steps.

We encourage you to keep this information nearby and use it as a guide to complete all the tasks necessary for your enrollment.

Preparing for your first semester at Juniata

  • Register for New Student Orientation
When your $400 deposit is received and processed, you can register online for the New Student Orientation at www.juniata. edu/orientation. This is an overnight experience that includes students meeting with an adviser and registering for their first semester of classes. The 2015 orientation dates are June 12-13, June 14-15, June 19-20, and June 21-22. Registration opens in March 2015 and closes for each orientation when filled to capacity.
  • Submit your final high school transcript upon graduation
Juniata must have an official final high school transcript with a graduation date listed on file. Federal and state financial aid funds require us to have this transcript before the student attends full time in the fall.
  • Transfer credits, AP, and IB curriculum
If you have taken any college courses, please send an official transcript from that institution to the enrollment office. AP credits are accepted with a score of 4 or 5 on the exam. Full IB diplomas are accepted, as are courses with a test score of 5, 6, or 7. Class substitution is determined with the consultation of professors and advisers. Students must have the testing organization send the test scores to the Registrar at Juniata.
  • Consider your housing options
One of the most exciting things in the summer prior to starting college is requesting your residence hall. At Juniata, first-year students have many options.

Sherwood is exclusive to first-year students and co-ed by floor. The first two floors are male and the second two floors are female.
The majority of Sunderland is first-year students and is co-ed by wing. In addition to the standard common area, Sunderland hosts a kitchen that is available to residents for the late night snack. In Sunderland, all furniture is movable.

Tussey and Terrace, commonly known as T&T, is open to all students. Co-ed by wing, it also houses the Global Village, which is one of our learning and living communities where students can choose to have an international roommate. The T&T lounge, a popular location for fun campus activities, also has a piano for the musically inclined and a ping pong table for destressing.

Lesher, the only all-female dorm, can be found on the quad. The basement is also home to the Early Childhood Education Center.

Unlike all the other residence halls, East offers suite-style housing options. Typically, four traditional rooms are connected through a private common area and shared bathroom.
  • Dive into your transition with Inbound
Inbound is a fun and relaxing way to begin your first year. Students choose an activity that sounds exciting to them, such as intramural sports, advanced mountain biking, dance, or community service, and participate in that activity for three days with two returning students as the Inbound Leaders. In this relaxed setting, students become familiar with campus, Huntingdon, and available resources. Many students find lifelong friends with common social interests during Inbound, as well as returning student mentors.

Checklist

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
If you are applying for need-based financial aid, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The suggested filing deadline is February 15, 2015. You can obtain all the information at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Observing the February 15 deadline will ensure that you have your cost information in plenty of time before the May 1 deadline to submit your deposit. If you have questions about completing the FAFSA, a particular question on the FAFSA, or just general questions, please call the Office of Student Financial Planning. Juniata’s code number for the FAFSA is 003279.
  • Schedule a campus visit
If you visited Juniata during your junior year or early last fall, you may want to schedule a second visit to take a closer look and meet our students and faculty. You can choose to visit at one of our Open House events or one of our Department Days. Or, you can schedule an individual visit and tailor your day to meet your specific interests. Details are at www.juniata.edu/visit. Keep in mind that the Accepted Student Open House is on April 18, 2015, and the last day for an overnight visit is April 28, 2015.
  • Review, sign, and return your financial planning award
If you have questions concerning your financial aid award, call your personal enrollment counselor or the Office of Student Financial Planning after receiving your financial planning award. Once you understand all the components of your award, sign and return it to the Office of Student Financial Planning. Your signature indicates that you have reviewed it and are accepting the award.
  • Notify Juniata of your college selection
Congratulations! You have made your final decision. Please return the enclosed form with your final decision. If Juniata College is your final choice, please include the $400 deposit.
