History
On December 8, 1973, the Juniata football team appeared in the first NCAA Division III national championship game under the leadership of head coach Walt Nadzak and assistant coaches Dean Rossi and Richard Reilly. The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Phenix, Ala. was televised live by ABC. While Juniata fell to Wittenberg University, the team’s 10-2 record remains the Juniata standard for victories in a season. The same year, Coach Nadzak was named NCAA Division III Coach of the Year and was the first from Juniata’s athletic department to receive such an honor.
