Delaware Valley Holiday Gathering at Longwood Gardens

There has been only one way for the Delaware Valley Club to jump into the holiday season for the past seven years and that is with an event at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa. On Sunday, December 2, the group gathered for an eighth consecutive holiday season at the world's premier horticultural showplace. Although the weather (rain, rain and heavy rain) did not provide the traditional experience that alumni, family and friends have enjoyed over the years, it did not dampen the spirits of the 29 Juniatians who turned out for the gathering. As usual, the gardens were beautiful and the holiday season atmosphere would have even warmed the heart of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Those in attendance met in the lobby of the Visitor’s Center and after regrouping in the Conservatory Ballroom, many Juniatians sat together for the organ sing-a-long of Christmas carols. The day continued with either the Yuletide Buffet at the Special Events Pavilion or an a la carte selection at the Terrace Café where the groups found a quiet place to socialize and tell stories from their days at Juniata.
Following the respective meals, the sun had set and the outside light displays at Longwood Gardens were aglow. Even though the rain was still falling, those who took the time to walk around outside had their eyes dazzled with another amazing display of lights. Those who opted to stay inside took in the Lancaster Chamber Singers at the night’s choral concert.
Overall, the decades of the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s were represented at the event.
