The Mid-State Juniata Club gathered on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, September 14, at Stone Mountain Adventures for a fiesta of grande proportions. More than 30 alumni, family and friends enjoyed the opportunity to socialize and sample a vast array of salsas prepared by attendees.
Each guest voted for his or her favorites in four categories - best taste, best heat, best presentation, and most interesting. The lucky winners were Rosalie Rodriguez '01 with her best tasting mango salsa and Toby Mitchell '95 for his peppery hot entry. Todd Quinter '00 and his creation named Juan stole the show, taking home best presentation, and Jill Welsch garnered praise for her unique avocado and pomegranate salsa. Winners were presented with one-of-a-kind trophies designed by hosts Brandon '00 and Christine (Vrabel) '99 Zlupko. They also walked away with a Juniata gift and bragging rights.
Attendees included grads from the decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 90s, and 00s. Current seniors Nicole Staricek and Matt Werle joined the group and provided some excitement to end the day. To read about Nicole's ploy to get a few attendees to show some good old Juniata teamwork, read her blog entry Expecting the Uncommon.
Special thanks to Brandon '00 and Christine (Vrabel) '99 Zlupko for hosting this event and to Jud and Anne Millar for allowing us to use their beautiful facilities!
