A crowd of more than 1000 alumni, parents, family and friends journeyed back to Juniata to take part in Homecoming and Family Weekend 2008, October 24-26. Although rain showers dampened the football field, and brought many festivities indoors, the inclimate weather did not dampen spirits as spectators gathered with Juniata ponchos and umbrellas to cheer on the game.
The weekend kicked off with parents and family members attending classes with their students on Friday. Among other events that day, guests enjoyed illusionist Jason Bishop as part of Friday Night Live. The annual tradition of making apple butter at the Raystown Field Station started Friday evening and concluded on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday morning, parents and alumni mingled with faculty members at a continental breakfast, followed by the gathering of 19 Affinity Groups. During halftime of the football game, track alumni and special guests celebrated the progress of the new 8-lane track. Other Saturday highlights included the Homecoming Tailgate overlooking the football game, the Marketplace selling items from Juniata businesses and organizations, and the annual Legacy Reception. Late in the afternoon, the class of 1998 and 2003 gathered for their 5 and 10-year reunions, and the class of 2008 presented their class gift, a beautiful eagle statue titled “Silent Descent.”
Following Sunday’s Campus Worship Service, the Raystown Field Station was open for tours, and soccer players from the past celebrated the contributions of Juniata's first soccer coach and program founder at the 1st Annual Klaus Jaeger Men's Soccer Alumni Game.
