The Biology Department at Juniata College, a highly ranked, national liberal arts college of 1,500 students located in the scenic Allegheny Mountains of central Pennsylvania, seeks to fill an assistant professor position in the area of Biology, with a focus on Neuroscience and Physiology. The Biology Department has an innovative curriculum, a strong tradition of undergraduate research and a rich history of sending students on to graduate studies and productive careers. In the last six years, Biology Department has been awarded over 3.5 million dollars in grants to support our students and undergraduate research. Successful candidates will teach courses in Introductory Biology, an upper-level Physiology course and an upper-level Neuroscience course in their area of expertise. Candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program with undergraduates. Candidates with diverse scientific backgrounds that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates will be expected to collaborate with faculty in Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, and Education on a recently approved Neuroscience Program. In addition, candidates are encouraged to work with Biology faculty on various departmental initiatives that include Course-based Undergraduate Research experiences and/or incorporating massively-parallel sequencing technologies into the undergraduate curriculum and research (https://gcat-seek.weebly.com/). Applicants with an earned Ph.D. (required) and post-doctoral and teaching experience (preferred) should submit 1) a brief statement of teaching experience, philosophy, and interests; 2) a succinct two-page summary of research interests; 3) a curriculum vitae; 4) a statement on diversity and inclusion; 5) undergraduate and graduate academic transcripts; and 6) three letters of recommendation.
