Policies, Procedures, and the Code of Conduct in a virtual environment
Even though the academic enterprise has shifted to a remote digital experience, the policies and procedures outlined in the Pathfinder (student handbook) are still effective. Conduct that is in violation of community principles, that impinges on the rights of others, and/or that adversely affects the College community, mission or reputation; or that specifically violates College policies may result in a student’s required participation in the student conduct process. This includes conduct that occurs both on and off college property as well as online or digitally.
Please reference the Office of Campus and Residential Life procedures detailed above on how to request permission to access the residence halls. Failure to do so is a violation of the code of conduct as unauthorized entry.
Likewise, Juniata’s policy on academic integrity also applies in the remote/online learning environment. Please be thoughtful and use good judgment!
Campus and Residential Life
Signing Up to Collect Your Belongings
This is a moment of unmatched social stress and anxiety, and we understand that collecting belongings and departing campus may add to that for many. To that end, we have developed a procedure to facilitate move-out that affords flexibility, ensures a smooth departure from campus and corresponds to CDC and PA Department of Health guidance to limit social interactions, density of people, and control the number of individuals on campus during a given time. As such, we will be pre-scheduling and coordinating move-out times. Please follow the steps outlined below. Student residence hall move-out will extend from Saturday, March 21 – Sunday, March 29. Move outs from Saturdays and Sundays will be from 8am – 8pm. Monday – Friday move out time slots will be from 9am – 5pm.
- Please use this link to schedule a time to come to campus to gather your belongings.
- Scroll down to the “Other” section.
- Click on the day/time that you’d like to come to campus.
- Log-in using your Juniata username and password.
- Click on Register.
- Confirm your First Name, Last Name, Username (email address), and choose “Student” for your Department.
- Click on the Register button.
- You will receive an email in your Juniata email account confirming your registration
- Each time slot is 4 hours long.
- There is a (maximum) limit of 50 students per time slot.
- If you or someone in your living environment is ill, please do not travel to campus and reschedule your move-out.
To best facilitate social distancing and everyone’s safety and health during this process, we ask you to please coordinate with your roommates to stagger your move-outs.
Move-Out Procedures
- Please arrive on campus during your assigned day and time block.
- You may go directly to your residence hall to collect your belongings.
- Please do not let other students into the residence hall while on campus.
- A room key envelope and instructions for forwarding your campus mail will be on your residence hall door.
- Once you have removed your belongings and cleaned your room, put your residence hall key(s) into the key envelope and drop the envelope off in the Ellis Hall lobby.
- When moving out, please remember to complete the following:
- Remove all belongings and take trash to dumpsters located outside residence halls.
- If you live in an apartment or suite, please be sure to collect all of your items from the common areas.
- Close and lock windows, doors, and blinds.
- Turn out the lights.
A Campus and Residential Life staff member will check your room in the weeks following your departure and follow-up with any questions.
I have sensitive items in my room and need advice/assistance about how to address this concern.
Please contact the Office of Campus and Residential Life (campuslife@juniata.edu or 814-64-3323) for any concerns you have related to your residence while you are away from campus.
If you need to return to campus, for any reason, please consult with Residential Life (campuslife@juniata.edu or 814-641-3323) or contact the Dean of Students Office (deanofstudents@juniata.edu or 814-641-3150) for approval BEFORE you return.

Managing Anxiety & Stress
The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions. Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations.
How you respond to the outbreak can depend on your background, the things that make you different from other people, and the community in which you live.
If you, or someone you care about, feel overwhelmed with emotions like sadness, depression, or anxiety, or feel like you want to harm yourself or others, help is available 24/7:
- Call: 9-1-1
- Call: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Disaster Distress Helpline: 1-800-985-5990 or
- Text: TalkWithUs to 66746 (TTY 1-800-846-8517)
- People with deafness or hearing loss can use their preferred relay service to call 1-800-985-5990.
- Download the fact sheet on Coping with a Disaster or Traumatic Event: https://emergency.cdc.gov/coping/pdf/Coping_with_Disaster.pdf

Things you can do to support yourself:
- Connect with others– Share your concerns and how you are feeling with a friend or family member. Maintain healthy relationships and build a strong support system.
- Take breaks– Make time to unwind and remind yourself that strong feelings will fade. Try taking in deep breaths. Try to do activities you usually enjoy.
- Stay informed– When you feel that you are missing information, you may become more stressed or nervous. Watch, listen to, or read the news for updates from officials. Be aware that there may be rumors during a crisis, especially on social media. Always check your sources and turn to reliable sources of information like your local government authorities.
- Avoid too much exposure to news– Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories. It can be upsetting to hear about the crisis and see images repeatedly. Try to do enjoyable activities and return to normal life as much as possible and check for updates between breaks.
- Seek help when needed– If distress impacts activities of your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to a clergy member, counselor, or doctor, or contact the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-985-5990.
- Take care of your body– Try to eat healthy well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row.
If you experience these feelings or behaviors for several days in a row and are unable to carry out normal responsibilities because of them, seek professional help.
