Important Information for Students

While this page is not in traditional “FAQ” format, it does include essential information for the Juniata community regarding the virtual/remote learning environment and other important logistics related to completing the spring 2020 semester. We have great empathy for the frustration and heartbreak that many Juniatians are feeling and we hope this information will help guide you toward healing, self-care, maintenance of community bonds, and to the successful completion of this academic semester. As always, please reach out to us (Juniata faculty and staff) with questions, concerns and/or if we can help you in any way. Wings up!

Dean of Students

Your Student Life Dean team remains available and accessible to you for support, problem-solving, and advocacy, even as you study from away. We are happy to schedule meetings, consultations or conversations via Zoom, Skype, phone, or other electronic means. As always, your concerns are our concerns, and your support is our work. Seek out any of us with questions or concerns!

Policies, Procedures, and the Code of Conduct in a virtual environment

Even though the academic enterprise has shifted to a remote digital experience, the policies and procedures outlined in the Pathfinder (student handbook) are still effective. Conduct that is in violation of community principles, that impinges on the rights of others, and/or that adversely affects the College community, mission or reputation; or that specifically violates College policies may result in a student’s required participation in the student conduct process. This includes conduct that occurs both on and off college property as well as online or digitally.

Please reference the Office of Campus and Residential Life procedures detailed above on how to request permission to access the residence halls. Failure to do so is a violation of the code of conduct as unauthorized entry.

Likewise, Juniata’s policy on academic integrity also applies in the remote/online learning environment. Please be thoughtful and use good judgment!

Health & Wellness

Interpersonal Violence

Office for the Prevention of Interpersonal Violence (the SPoT)

The health, wellness, and safety of our students is our top priority and we want to make sure that survivors of interpersonal violence and their communities are provided with the utmost support. Please know that whatever you are experiencing is valid and you are not alone. We know that this is a difficult time and that uncertainty around the coronavirus may feel overwhelming for survivors already coping with trauma and stress. Remember, it’s okay to walk away from any situation or conversation that feels triggering. We encourage you to be mindful of your health and others, and to embrace the healthy habits that serve as a shared responsibility amongst us all. The most important thing to remember: Your well-being comes first. If you need us, please reach out.

Campus Ministry

The Campus Ministry Team would like to remind everyone that we are still here and available to support you in a variety of ways. We realize there is uncertainty about the semester and sadness for lost time with friends and traditions, but we remain cautious for not only our campus community but our country and the world. We cherish each of you and the interconnectedness that makes us Juniata.

With the confusion, uncertainty, mixed messages in the media, etc. we want to remind you to take care of yourself. That is a message for all of us during this time and a few basic reminders.

  • Stay healthy, take care of the basic needs first: eating, sleeping, exercise.
  • Breath, meditate, walk, practice mindfulness.
  • Acknowledge your fears/anxiety, talk with others, find a supportive community.
  • Listen with compassion, practice patience, care, and kindness.
  • Practice empathy, hope, and gratitude.
  • Ground yourself whether through nature, creative ways/art/music/reading, or prayer.
  • Seek spiritual guidance, pray as you are able.
  • Remember you are not alone.
  • Make a list of that for which you are grateful each day.
  • Remind yourself that you are loved and appreciated.
