HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The three-time defending Landmark Conference champion Juniata College field hockey team is favored to earn the title for the fourth time in 2010. The preseason votes of the Landmark Conference head coaches and sports information directors were released on Friday.

Juniata received 75 points in the poll and was picked to finish first or second on every ballot.

The Catholic University of America followed Juniata in the poll with 65 points, while Susquehanna came in third with 54 points. Drew University was ranked fourth with a total of 45 points and the University of Scranton slid in the fifth spot with 38 points. Moravian College picked up 26 points in the voting to be ranked in the sixth spot, and Goucher College placed seventh in the poll with 15 points.

Juniata finished with 17 wins and four losses overall last season, and was undefeated in the Landmark Conference with six wins. The team took on Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference Championship and won 1-0. They traveled to the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship to face the Lynchburg College Hornets, earning the program's first automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and fourth NCAA bid in the last six seasons.

Juniata will be returning to the action for the 2010 season led by sophomore back Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh), the 2009 Landmark Rookie of the Year and a 2009 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-American Third Team Selection. Also returning to the field will be junior forward Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), the leading goal scorer with 18 goals, nine assists and a total of 45 points. Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) lead the team in game-winning goals with eight last season and was voted First Team All-Landmark Conference and the league's Offensive Player of the Year.

The Eagles will open their season on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Messiah College.
