BASEBALL (24-17, 14-7 Commonwealth):
The Juniata baseball team has its season come to an end as the Eagles dropped a pair of games at the NCAA Tournament. Juniata fell 6-0 to the top ranked team in NCAA Division III Johns Hopkins in the opening round then fell to Arcadia by an 8-7 score in an elimination game. One of Juniata's six seniors, Marc Frailey (Middletown/Middletown) led the team with a .375 batting average during the tourney. Senior Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) hit .200 but had a team-high two RBI for Juniata. Zach Sternberg (McCaskey/Lancaster) notched a pair of hits against Johns Hopkins and finished the tournament with a .333 average with a run scored and an RBI. Adam Camberg (Altoona/Altoona) also hit .333 during the week and added an RBI. Sternberg was named as an at-large pick to the Regional All-Tournament Team. David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) and Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) each scored a pair of runs to pace Juniata. Sophomore hurler Cody Zong (Lewistown/McVeytown) pitched five and a third strong innings for Juniata against Johns Hopkins, allowing just two runs, one earned and striking out five. Juniata established a new program record for wins in a season with 24. The team also appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1990, and won the program's first conference championship since 1991.
