(Posted September 8, 2000)
Experience the modern-day dating scene set to music when Juniata College Artist Series presents, I Love You, You?re Perfect, Now Change. This hit musical has four actors that play more than 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs scaling the spectrum of male/female relationships. The show, a throwback to the musical comedy revue with book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, starts at 8:15 p.m., Sept. 16, in Rosenberger Auditorium, Oller Hall.
The story starts at the dawn of humankind when men and women first recognize there may be problems between them. Fast-forward to modern-day with four young people preparing to impress. Wind along the path of the modern mating dance and end up at a funeral home where two elderly people realize that love is possible at any age.
I Love You, You?re Perfect, Now Change opened at the off-broadway Westside Theatre in New York on Aug. 1, 1996, following acclaimed engagements at New Haven?s prestigious Long Wharf Theatre and the American Stage Company in New Jersey where the production set a new box office record.
Gannett Newspapers hailed I Love You, You?re Perfect, Now Change as "Hilarious! The most entertaining show on or off broadway!" According to the Newark Star-Ledger, "it?s a great first date show. A perfect mating dance! It?s ?Seinfeld? set to music!" The New York production marked its 1000th performance on Dec. 26, 1998.
