The 2013 Grammys: Grand or Galling?
(Posted February 19, 2013)
The 2013 Grammy Awards recognized achievements of several musical artists and included performances from this year's top bands. While some thought it was music to their ears, others say it hit all the wrong notes:
Valeriya Smithka '14, Silver Spring, Md.:
I always enjoy the unique combination of artists they have performing at the Grammys. Overall, most of the people I wanted to win won, so I'm pretty happy about that.
Samantha Goebel '14, Rileyville, Va.:
I did not like the last song. The last artist to perform at the Grammys for the closing was really bad, and so was the one who played the piano with the running feet underneath him (Frank Ocean). I didn't like his piece.
Bader Alnoaimi, East Riffaa, Bahrain:
I actually didn't hear anything about the Grammys this time around. Usually I do, you know like, "Holy crap, this thing happened, Eminem came in and was all like, 'What is wrong with this guy all up in my face?' or something." But this time I didn't hear anything, unfortunately.
Alexandra Whitter '14, Short Hills, N.J.:
Mumford & Sons were awesome, and The Lumineers were awesome. Honestly I'm not really into a lot of popular music, so those were the only two that I actually enjoyed.
Kelly Russo '14, San Luis Obispo, Calif.:
It was okay. It felt like they had too many commercials, but they had a lot more bands I liked nominated, so that made me happy. I was really happy Mumford & Sons won, and they also did a good job with their performance. I also thought The Black Keys were really good. Overall, I think there were a lot more deserving artists than usual, but I felt like a lot of the performances were just okay.
