Why study Sociology at Juniata College?

Sociology helps you to develop an understanding about how social institutions like politics, economics, religion, and family shape our society and your own life experience. By exploring the writings of important social thinkers, like C. Wright Mills, Randall Collins, and Karl Marx, you will gain a better understanding of today's social issues and challenges.

As a sociology POE, you will collaborate closely with faculty and other students in small, proficiency-based classes and independent studies. Most introductory classes have fewer than 30 students, while upper level classes have between 5 and 15 students. Students participate in a wide array of internship and service learning opportunities, including the exciting possibility of an international internship. This allows students to build a strong foundation for graduate school or for a host of possible career pursuits with courses in the core of sociology. 

The POE in Sociology at Juniata College is not currently available. Students with an interest in Sociology can consider the Secondary Emphasis, or can work with an advisor in the Department to craft their own Individualized POE with strength in Sociology.
