Primary Role

  • Manages immigration services for the campus community, including students, international faculty, and visiting language instructors and researchers. Serves as a Designated School Official for F-1 students and an Alternate Responsible Officer for J-1 exchange visitors. Responsible for visa processing, including H-1B visas, for the college and maintenance of the SEVIS database.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and updates information for students, international faculty, and visiting scholars on visa regulations, pre-departure information, travel, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field of international education. Takes advantage of workshops and training when possible. Maintains active membership to NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
  • Responsible for orientation, counseling, cultural and social programming needs of international students.
  • Supervises the First Friends Program, Friendship Family Program, and other international student programs and activities.
  • Maintains communication links and network with overseas program advisors and directors. Assists the Dean and the Study Abroad Director with exchange partner relations including tracking exchange balances and contracts.
  • Coordinates with International Recruitment Advisor, Assoc. Director International Recruitment, and External Relations on marketing and enrollment for international students including possible recruitment visits combined with site visit travel.
  • Supervises daily administrative activities of the office including budget management and three staff members, the Resident Director / International Services Coordinator; International Education and Visa Services Assistant, and the Center for International Education Office Assistant.
  • Assists the Dean of the Center for International Education in the budget management of the office. Oversees financial transactions such as billings, vouchers, etc. and prepares budget reports.
  • Develops and maintains various sections of the Center for International Education website.
  • Represents the CIE when the Dean is not in the office.

Position Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree preferred or a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with relevant 5 years work experience.
  2. 2. Study and/or work experience and travel abroad desirable. The successful candidate should have a minimum of five years experience in international education including advising students, working with faculty, supervising staff.
  3. Facility with a second language highly desirable. An understanding of cultural diversity and intercultural training and experience and a willingness to travel on a regular basis is important.
  4. Strong working knowledge of Department of Homeland Security and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations and procedures. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are important.
