FOOTBALL (1-1, 1-1 MAC): Sept. 22, Wilkes.
Juniata suffered its first setback of the season during its initial road trip of the 2001 campaign with a 38-6 loss at Albright on Saturday. The Eagles were down, 32-0, before junior quarterback Jon Collins (Lewistown/Lewistown) hit senior wide receiver Andy Radomsky (West Branch/Morrisdale) with a 35-yard touchdown pass with 11:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. The last time that Juniata lost by 32-or-more points came in 1998 when Widener knocked off the Eagles, 47-7. Radomsky ended the day with four catches for 73 yards. Senior wide receiver Lucas Kelleher (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) had a game-best six snags for 76 yards and he returned five kickoffs for 109 yards. Collins, who entered the contest in the second half, completed 10 of 18 passes for 167 yards and he was intercepted one time. Freshman quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) went 11 of 30 for 116 yards, but was picked off on three occasions. The blue and gold ground game was limited to just three yards on the afternoon. Defensively, senior inside linebacker Josh Seiders (Wyomissing/Wyomissing Hills) led all players with 12 tackles, including two for lost yards. Junior outside linebacker Matthew Wharton (Cambria Heights/Dysart) had 11 stops, including nine solos and two for negative yards. Junior cornerback Paul Evans (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) came up with 10 wrap-ups and a blocked field goal. Senior inside linebacker Alan Rogers (Tussey Mountain/Six Mile Run) made the most of his first collegiate start with eight tackles, two pass break-ups and one interception, while junior defensive tackle Bill Bishop (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) posted eight stops as well.

WOMEN'S TENNIS (2-1, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth): Sept. 19 at Lebanon Valley; Sept. 22, Albright.
The Eagles had their match at Lycoming on Tuesday postponed until Thursday due to the terrorist attack on the United States, but Thursday's tilt was stopped due to heavy rains and a thunderstorm in the Williamsport Area. No make up date has been scheduled as of yet. On Saturday, Juniata handed visiting Widener a 9-0 loss in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action. Senior Lisa Dumansky (Nutley/Nutley, NJ) improved to 3-0 on the year with a 4-6, 7-6 (6-4), 7-6 (6-2) win a first singles. Junior Liz Osche (Acton-Boxborough/Acton, MA) posted a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 win at second singles and paired with Dumansky for a convincing 8-0 pro-set triumph at first doubles. Junior Jenny Thompson (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford, NY) earned a 6-0, 6-1 decision during her third singles match, while freshman Libby Cooney (Forest Hills/South Fork) registered a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win at fourth singles. On the fifth singles court, freshman Steph Shaver (Central Cambria/Ebensburg) coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 victory, and junior Alexina Thompson (Pittsford Mendon/Pittsford, NY) won at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1. Jenny Thompson and Shaver were triumphant at second doubles, 8-6, while senior Bethany Eisemann (Ephrata/Ephrata) and freshman Teresa Ralicki (Biglerville/Gettysburg) proved victorious during their third doubles appearance, 8-2.

FIELD HOCKEY (0-5, 0-1 Commonwealth): Sept. 18 at Indiana (Pa.); Sept. 20, Shippensburg.
The Eagles lost at home to Susquehanna on Wednesday, 2-0, in their Commonwealth Conference opener of 2001. In addition, Juniata moved to 0-5 for the first time since the 1992 club started the campaign with an 0-6 record. On Wednesday, the Eagles were out shot, 23-7, and were down, 1-0, at halftime. Freshman goalie Melonie Sappe' (Dallas/Shavertown) made 17 saves for the blue and gold low-stick unit. Juniata had its scheduled outing at Elmira on Sunday canceled.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (4-2, 0-1 Commonwealth): Sept. 20 at York (Pa.); Sept. 22, Moravian;
Sept. 23, Bridgewater (Va.).
Juniata lost on Saturday to visiting Lebanon Valley, 6-0, in the Commonwealth Conference opener in 2001. The Eagles were down, 5-0, at halftime, and were out shot in the game, 25-6. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) started for Juniata and made 13 saves, while freshman Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) came off the bench and played the final 16 minutes of the contest. It was her first appearance since suffering an injury in the season opener and she made three saves without allowing a goal. On Sunday, the Eagles rebounded for a 2-1 overtime win at Thiel. It marked the first extra session game for Juniata since 1999. Junior midfielder Rose Bender (Cambria Heights/Carrolltown) tallied the contest-clincher in the second session of sudden victory off an assist from sophomore forward Jenn Hurley (Lyndonville/Newfield, NY). Juniata scored first in the game with an own goal. Freshman Erin Harter (Penn Trafford/Trafford), a forward, was credited with the assist. Troutman played the final 67 minutes of the outing in goal for the Eagles and got the win. She did not allow a goal and made three saves. Treon started and made four saves in the first half.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (5-3): Sept. 19 at Widener; Sept. 22, Edinboro.
The Eagles had their outing at Albright on Tuesday postponed due to the tragic events in our country and no make up date has been scheduled as of yet. In addition, Thursdays outing at Washington (MO) was canceled, but Juniata made the trip to St. Louis by bus and took part in the Washington University National Invitational in a reschedule format. Puget Sound did not make the journey and, as a result, Juniata and Washington played each other during the tourney. On Friday, the Eagles, who were ranked third in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III pre-season poll, got past ninth-ranked Ohio Northern, 30-23, 26-30, 30-27, 23-30, 15-13. Senior outside hitter Brandy Workinger (Dallastown/Dallastown) had 19 kills, 19 digs, four blocks and an ace, while sophomore opposite Danielle Hart (Central/Roaring Spring) posted 19 kills, 20 digs and four blocks. Junior middle hitter Niki Mueller (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) had 12 kills and six blocks. Freshman setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) dished out 58 assists and had 13 digs before leaving the match with an injury. Sophomore middle hitter Jill Davis (Worthington/Worthington, OH) registered nine kills and eight blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, ND) had 15 digs. Juniata then lost to fourth-ranked Washington, 30-24, 27-30, 30-23, 30-25. Workinger had 14 kills, eight digs and two aces. Hart recorded 13 kills, 16 digs and two aces, while Mueller finished with 10 kills, three digs and two rejections. Holtan had 11 digs, and sophomore setter Melissa Berdine (Pine-Richland/Gibsonia) posted 62 assists, nine digs and two kills in her first collegiate start. On Saturday, the Eagles opened the day with a 30-24, 28-30, 30-19, 21-30, 15-12 loss to Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Workinger had 23 kills, 13 digs, four aces and a block in the loss, while Hart turned in 20 kills, seven digs and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, OH) had 14 digs, eight kills, two blocks and an ace, while Berdine continued with the setting duties and handed out 63 abets to go with six digs. Juniata then lost to second-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater, 30-15, 30-23, 20-30, 30-25, to close out the tournament. Workinger once again led the blue and gold with 16 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and one ace. Hart reached double figures in kills 13 and had seven digs to go with three rejections. Freshman outside Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) turned in nine kills, nine digs, three blocks and one ace, while Mueller added in eight kills, three blocks and one dig. Berdine distributed 51 assists and had 13 digs. Workinger was named to the all-tournament team, while head coach Larry Bock now owns an 899-153 career record in charge of the Juniata women's volleyball fortunes. He needs just one more victory to become just the second women's collegiate coach in the history of the sport to post 900 wins. Andy Banachowski at UCLA got his 900th victory on September 1 of this year. Bock also needs one win to move his overall collegiate victory total to 1,000 as he posted a 100-91 record during his six years as the Juniata men's coach.

MEN'S SOCCER (0-3-2, 0-1 Commonwealth): Sept. 20, Marywood; Sept. 22, Moravian;
Sept. 23, Bridgewater (Va.).
Juniata was held scoreless during its two outings this past week. On Thursday, the Eagles and visiting La Roche battled to a 0-0, overtime tie, while on Saturday, Lebanon Valley came to College Hill and posted a 1-0 win in Commonwealth Conference action. Against La Roche, senior goalkeeper Chris Zimmerman (Westmont Hilltop/Johnstown) made 10 saves in 120 minutes of action. Zimmerman posted eight stops versus the Dutchmen.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Sept. 22 at Messiah Invitational.
Juniata made a trip to Pitt-Johnstown for an invitational this past Saturday. The Eagles were slated to make an appearance at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational, but that outing was canceled due to the tragedy that took place in our nation this past Tuesday. At Pitt-Johnstown, Juniata placed third out of the six teams in attendance with 77 points. Geneva won the race with 15 points. The Eagles were paced by sophomore Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown), who took seventh in a field of 63 with a time of (20:50). Junior Michele Palmer (Littlestown/Littlestown) placed eighth (21:12), while freshman Breanna Daum (Blue Mountain/Orwigsburg) was ninth (21:32). Rounding out the top five for Juniata were sophomore Suzie Gardner (South Western/Hanover) and sophomore Juliana Hillegass (Shanksville Stonycreek/Berlin), who were 34th (23:34) and 35th (23:37), respectively.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Sept. 22 at Messiah Invitational.
The Eagles journeyed to Pitt-Johnstown for an invitational on Saturday, after learning that the annual Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational was canceled due to the tragedy that took place in our nation this past Tuesday. At Pitt-Johnstown, Juniata took third in a field of six squads and tallied 76 markers. St. Vincent grabbed the men's title with 30 points. Juniata's freshman Will Cantara (West Branch/Allport) led the blue and gold at Pitt-Johnstown with a time of 27:16 to place eighth at an event that consisted of 41 participants. Freshman Justin Norris (Warren/Warren) was 10th (27:30), while freshman Jason Freeman (Thornton/Thornton, CO) took 15th (28:55). Senior David Slat (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg), who was 20th (30:19), and freshman Chris Thompson (Topeka West/Topeka, KS), who was 23rd (30:32), completed the scoring five for the Eagles.
