HUNTINGDON. Pa. -- Lisa Baer, Catholic chaplain at Juniata College, will teach a workshop covering the various methods used to contemplate individual spirituality. The workshop, "Interfaith Contemplative Practices," starts at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the Sill Board Room in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The workshop is free and open to the public.

According to Baer, the workshop will touch on contemplative practices used by people who seek a spiritual experience outside of an organized religion or denomination. Such experiences might include yoga and reading.

Baer also will cover a variety of contemplative methods used in organized religions. These categories would include: Activism, such as pilgrimages or vigils; Generative, which includes organized prayers or petition prayers; Rituals, which includes many rituals within denominations as well as vision quests or other rites; Relational, which includes dialogue and journaling; Stillness, which includes silent meditation; Movement, which covers tai chi and other martial arts; and Creation process, which includes singing, chanting or art.
