University of Cochin Professor to Lecture on Human Trafficking

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A clinical psychologist from the University of Cochin in India, Sarada Sreedeviamma, will lecture at Juniata College on \"Scarlet Daughters: An Experiential Sharing on the Global Trafficking of Women and Children\" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 22 in C116 in the Brumbaugh Academic Center on the Juniata campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. Sreedeviamma is a professor of economics at Cochin University of Science and Technology, and has written two books, \"Scarlet Daughters of South Asiaâ??a Poignant Portrayal\" (2003) and \"Clinical Interventions Among Tsunami Survivors,\" to be published later this year. She became an advocate against human trafficking when she was named resource person for the United Nations Sub-regional project to Combat Trafficking in Children and Women in 1998. After the horrific tsunami that hit India in 2004, she volunteered in refugee camps with a medical team of the Amrita Hospital in Kochi, India. She earned master\'s degrees in economics and psychology from San Francisco State University and earned a doctorate in stress management from Cochin University. The lecture is sponsored by the Brethren Colleges Abroad program. Juniata College is a member of the organization.
